Blandford Forum is a traditional English market town, but one with a difference – the fire of 1731 that destroyed most of the place led to its reconstruction as a piece, and a very elegant Georgian piece at that. No architectural style before or since, at least in this country, has been so pleasing on the eye. If you are looking to establish an atmosphere for your big day then elegance and beauty maybe figure high on your list. Like many other Dorset towns it has links with Thomas Hardy, his novels romantic and realistic at once – as Shottsford Forum it appears in the Mayor of Casterbridge, fittingly given the nature of this site as the place where Henchard buys a wedding present for Elizabeth-Jane.
