There is something – many things in fact – solidly and charmingly Victorian about the resort of Clevedon, not least its magnificent and relatively recently restored pier, and the idea of a paddle-steamer trip from it out into the Bristol Channel. There are more ancient structures to admire here too, the medieval Clevedon court among them. If you feel that your nerves may be frayed on the big day then the air blowing in from the Severn Estuary could help clear minds and lift spirits, though it would be hard to feel anything but optimistic about the world in such a pleasant spot.
