The very name Dawlish has a rather genteel and gentle ring to it, this fishing village that became a quiet resort seeming to speak of quiet and old fashioned values, a part of the English Riviera where that name rings true. Not that there isn’t a touch of the romantically exotic about the place too, with its famous black swans and dotted here and there about the place the violets that are a reminder of its old industry making Devon violets perfume. These days the crops tend towards the edible – like strawberries, maybe an idea there for your wedding breakfast menu - though there are lots of commercial flower-growers still.
