With the Purbeck Hills to one side and the vast Poole Harbour the other the wider setting of Wareham is already splendid. Add to that the ancient earth ramparts that encircle the settlement and you begin to get a feel for the place, an historic market town of no little charm and atmosphere. And it’s an ill wind – the town has a Georgian heart thanks to the 1762 fire that swept away much of the previous centre. If you are looking for a touch of the romantic in your venue then Wareham can offer Lawrence of Arabia, whose home at Clouds Hill is nearby, the dashing Arabist commemorated in suitable sculptural style in one of the old churches in the town.
