Situated at the centre of a triangle whose points are Leeds, York and Harrogate, Wetherby is at the heart of a prosperous and characterful area. The town doesn’t lack for character in itself either, occupying a scenic spot on the River Wharfe where an old bridge affords travelers a crossing point. Those travelers needed inns, and so there are some fine examples here, witnesses to a history of hospitality – good to know for those planning a wedding in the town. And it is hard not to preface the name Wetherby with the words ‘racing from’, thanks to its famous National Hunt racecourse. Beer lovers marrying here have every excuse to include a toast in ale – legendary writer Michael Jackson born in the town.
