The Casa Dei Cesari hotel lies on the western side of Cricket Hill, one of the three main ancient settlements in Yateley. The earliest available records relating to the property date from 1756 when it was in the ownership of the Moore family who completed the first modernisation of the timber framed house. This included the large open fireplace with its wide chimney in the entrance which dates from the late 17th century and the attractive chequerboard brickwork at the very front of the hotel.
During the late 19th century the house was divided into labourers cottages with some of the windows bricked in. However, the house was transformed back into a house for the gentry-wealthy middle class people in approx 1910. Large wings were added at both ends and raised at the north western end to an imposing three storeys. Externally, this house still largely survives, with its warm orange brickwork, and its gables covered with hanging tiles.
A succession of middle class occupants followed until the 1950’s when it was divided into flats. About 1975 when the Handford Lane became a wide straight road the house became an Italian Restaurant and took its current name. In the late 1980’s the house was extended at the rear in phases to become a 63 bedroom hotel, fortunately the imposing front facade was preserved.
