A defended manor house set in an area of unspoilt natural beauty, Penshurst Place is medieval in origin, with the warmth and character of a much-loved family home. It is famed in particular for its stunning Tudor gardens and medieval Baron’s Hall and offers a unique setting for an idyllic wedding day.
In a history spanning almost seven centuries, it has been owned by kings and noblemen and has been the ancestral seat of the Sidney family since 1552, where it has been the scene of lavish entertaining, poetic inspiration, chivalrous acts and notable historical events.
Today, the original 14th century manor house and the Tudor gardens present one of the most romantic backdrops imaginable for a truly memorable wedding ceremony or reception, with an abundance of stunning photo opportunities. The current owner, Philip Sidney, 2nd Viscount De L’Isle MBE and his family are pleased to invite you to enjoy the magnificent surroundings at Penshurst Place on your special day.
Located in the charming village of Penshurst, you can be assured of a most exclusive and memorable setting to capture that special moment of one of the most important days of your life.
Penshurst Place is home to three banqueting rooms of varying capacities, each with its own history and charm:
• The awe-inspiring Baron’s Hall is at the heart of Penshurst Place - steeped in history and elegance, giving a sense of occasion and feeling of grandeur; it can host up to 200 guests for a ceremony or 136 guests for dining
• The charming Sunderland Room is the original 14th century solar of the medieval hall. There is a light but mellow atmosphere, enhanced by a fire in the winter; it can host up to 120 guests for a ceremony or 88 guests for dining
• The cosy Buttery was once the bottle store room of the medieval household, but now a space for smaller receptions or as a bar area; it can host up to 30 guests for dining or 50 guests for a standing reception
Couples and their guests can take advantage of the private driveway, with ample, free parking, plus the Inner Courtyard, providing a private, outside area for the duration of the wedding day.
During the winter months a fully lined, heated and carpeted marquee within the grounds of Penshurst Place is offered for weddings.
With these unparalleled surroundings, Penshurst Place maintains its long tradition of hospitality by also offering a superb dining experience provided by Leith’s of Glyndebourne, our appointed caterer. They are famous for their impeccable standards of cuisine….offering mouth-watering dishes to impress and satisfy your guests.
