Set on a hill overlooking five counties, Rockingham Castle was built by William the Conqueror. The Castle was a royal residence for 450 years. In the 16th Century Henry VIII granted it to Edward Watson and for 450 years it has remained a family home. The pre-dominantly Tudor building, within Norman walls, has architecture, furniture and works of art from practically every century.
Twelve acres of formal and wild garden command splendid views and provide a delightful location for formal photographs.
Civil wedding ceremonies, with a maximum number of 100 guests can be held in the Great Hall and Panel Room between 10am and 6pm. If you are considering a church blessing, the beautiful Rockingham parish church, St Leonards, stands in the Castle grounds just a short walk from the Castle. Consent for the use of the church is by separate arrangement with the parish vicar.
After the ceremony, you are welcome to use the gardens and grounds for formal photography. During this time, your guests may be entertained at a drinks reception in Walkers House, an adjunct of the Castle and close at hand for guests to be called for photographs as required. Drinks can be served on the Terraced Lawn if the weather is suitable. Civil wedding ceremonies can take place daily except Saturdays when only civil wedding ceremonies followed by receptions take place.
Walkers House is available for full receptions. We can seat up to 90 guests and with a buffet can cater for 130. Walkers House has a dining area, and separate bar and dance floor and further rooms are available if required. We have excellent caterers who can meet the most exacting requirements, together with an extensive range of wines for use with our table licence.
Should you wish to have more space, possibly for a bigger party after the ceremony, a marquee can be attached to Walkers House. This gives more room for dancing and effectively closes the square of the Forecourt. We are happy to arrange the marquee and other facilities for you as required.
