Review Herons Barn
Review by Stefanie Evans
"My partner and I were lucky enough to hold our wedding reception at Herons Farm on the 18th August of this year. We spent many months liaising with the Herons Farm team and visited the venue on multiple occasions. On each occasion to visited it we fell more and more in love with the farm, and felt more and more as if we were having our reception at home rather than in a place we had hired.
My new-husband and I decided to stay at Herons Farm on the Friday and Saturday night with a few select relatives and friends, and Maggie (the owner of the venue) cooked us a fantastic 3-course meal on the Friday evening and a farmhouse breakfast with all the trimmings on both the Saturday and Sunday. Having the chance to spend a prolonged time there with our nearest and dearest meant that there was a real family-friendly feel to the day, and again enhanced the feeling of being at home rather than somewhere alien. Some brides might be concerned that having guests there the night before might ruin the surprise of the venue for everyone the next day, however this was definitely not the case with us: Herons Farm has ample space for everyone, and we stopped people going into the barn in order so that there was still the surprise of its beauty and our DIY decorations for guests who stayed over. Furthermore the ample self-catering supplies mean that this need not be a costly stay for relatives, who can choose to make breakfasts and dinners themselves if needs be. Ask Maggie for recommendations on rooms to suit specific needs, although I can say that Honeysuckle is perfect for guests with disabilities, and the Spiral room is wonderful for your wedding night.
Whilst I would definitely recommend staying over the night before, whether brides do this or not they will still have a wonderful wedding day if they choose to have it at Herons Farm. Whilst the venue is simply stunning the experience is made perfect by the amazing staff: Maggie the owner would do anything to make you feel at home, and Linda and Elaine who run the wedding side of things are completely dedicated to turning your dreams into a seamless reality. Whilst Linda, who I had most contact with in the run-up to the big day, is leaving Herons Farm because of a relocation I can still thoroughly recommend Elaine as completely professional, dedicated and inspiring. She saved the day on one of our DIY projects at 11pm the night before by searching high and low for some paperclips, and my husband has a very happy memory of trying out some proper Welsh cocktails as the evening drew to a close (ask her for the one which tastes like Cherry Bakewell – sure to become a firm favourite in our house!)
In summary we had a perfect, tea-party, book-inspired wedding at Herons Farm, and would heartily recommend it to anyone who was looking for somewhere where they can put their own personal touches on their day. Rest assured however that there is a fantastic team to think of the things you have forgotten, and support you throughout the run-up and allow you to relax on the day itself. On a further note I believe that they have just had their licence come through to allow marriages as well as receptions there. Whilst I cannot say that I would have changed a thing about my wedding day and therefore cannot say that I would have had the ceremony itself there I do believe that to get married at Herons Farm would be just as magical an experience as having your reception there – why not make your life easy and do both!! "Carina and I held our wedding reception at Heron's Farm on Saturday 16th June.
Despite questionable weather the day was a great success. Linda was magnificent both in the lead up and on the day. She is very helpful and goes out of her way to provide workable solutions for you.
The barn looked incredible and we were able to structure the day as we desired. The staff at the farm worked diligently throughout to ensure the day went seamlessly.
Some of our guests stayed in the farm house and Maggie ensured their stay was everything they imagined it would be and more.
This venue really is special and the staff are amazing.
Thank you so much"
