Haverfordwest is a rather peaceful country market town – and county town - whose streets cover two hills looking across the Pembrokeshire countryside. ..Show More

Peaceful now, but with a history of conflict hinted at by the ruined Norman castle that dominates the settlement (it was ‘slighted’ by Cromwell’s troops), and by other such structures found in the environs – the area was long fought over by English and Welsh, the victory of the former recalled in the area’s nickname of Little England Beyond Wales. The countryside here is rich green agricultural land, Haverfordwest once a significant hub for trading its produce, the cattle that helped give the town its name (Haver meaning heifer) included – now there’s a meaty idea for the wedding breakfast! This is an area rich in waterside too, from the River Cleddau that runs through the town, crossed by some rather picturesque bridges (even the newest) to the waters of the Pembroke Coast National Park to the southeast. A town and an area for the quieter wedding perhaps, away from city bustle, with some glorious scenery to soothe the worried soul before the main event - and some fine dignified buildings that maybe can match the mood of the party (and help the work of the photographer) on the day itself. ..Show Less
